EVERY TIME I try to go back to the main menu from inside a game, whether it be from the ESC menu or when I win/lose a game, Planetary Annihilation crashes. I have the latest version of DirectX and visiting Microsoft's site to install it just tells me that I have the same or newer version. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anybody know a solution? It's very annoying to have to open PA after every match.

Please upload a recent DxDiag; see my signature for a how-to. Without a detailed look at your system specs it's hard to tell the cause of your issue.

    Sure thing, here you go.

Also, as a side note, despite it saying that my computer was manufactured by MSI, that's just the manufacturer of the motherboard. I built this computer myself.

You have quite a beast rig, and everything looks fine in the dxdiag.

I would also personally like to know if you bought the game on steam or through the Uber site.
I can usually help more with steam versions.

PS: a mod should move this to the support sub forum.

I bought the game on steam, and while it performs worlds better on my desktop than my laptop with a GTX 675M and a CPU clock speed of 2.7 GHZ, my laptop has no problems with the main menu, while my desktop crashes every time without exception.

Could it be the amount of RAM that I have? Planetary Annihilation seems to bump up my idling 2 GB of RAM all the way up to about 7-7.9 GB out of 8 GB being used.

EDIT: I have tried Verify Integrity of Game Cache already.

try running the game from UBER's launcher, not from steam and deleting the contents of C:\users\*your*username*\Appdata\local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\common or something like that. (can't remember the path, I'm on linux now)

    I think I might know what's going on :)

Your machine has a current Intel Core i5 processor- that means it has an integrated gpu *as well as your dgpu*. For some reason having old drivers for the igpu can lead to crashes (it was doing this on my i5 laptop) so it's worth trying to get the latest Intel HD drivers for the i5. I think it's related to the way the UI system works.

i wish i could double like this, you beat me to it!

although if this still does not work the only thing i can recommend is a complete reinstall.

it looks like you have decent knowledge of troubleshooting since you verified game cache

Okay, where can I get the drivers for my specific Intel HD Graphics? I don't know which 1000 it is. My CPU is an Intel i5-4440. I am on Intel's download center, but I don't know which generation my CPU is.

I'd just like to say that after the last build (or 2?) i crash after trying to leave to main menu out of game as well.

I just figured it would go away eventually with another patch or 2...

    this is a bad lead.

Intel graphic drivers and Nvidia drivers aren't used simultaneously.

that is, very odd. I have never seen that before tbh.

i'll have to research this one.

PS, make sure you select the 64 bit version

as far as i can tell this kind of error only has to do with 32 and 64 bit conflicts.

Something you're doing is causing this conflict between computer architecture (32 and 64 bit)

I've tried both 32 bit and 64 bit installations, but neither work. 64 bit tells me that my system doesn't my the minimum requirements.

I need to exact error to be able to help you further.

Use event viewer (search 'View Event Logs' in the metro UI) to find the exact logs. They should be under

    1. Windows Logs -> System (If not just search around, you'll find e'm.)
    2. Double click the error and click copy
    3. paste here on this thread

These types of problems are very hard to diagnose without every detail.

@xmatrix2x: Have you tried disabling your integrated GPU (Intel based) in the BIOS?

A few years ago, I had BSOD problems until I took the integrated card offline. Also, the last time I played PA, I was able to return to the main menu just fine.

EDIT: This should definitely be moved to the Support Forum.

His hardware is incompatible with the drivers is all that it is. Intel has funny drivers sometimes. I have never gotten Eagle VGA drivers from Intel to install on ANYTHING, it produces the same error. (Ouch, 5 generations back)

Xmatrix, do you know your way around your bios well enough to simply disable the igpu? If so, do that. Then it won't matter what the drivers are--they'll never be used.

    Edit: damn phones.

Trying to avoid messing with bios. And also this entire thing makes no sense anymore.

If the display is plugged into the GPU, then igpu should not even be used.

There should not even be an option in the bios to disable the igpu, just one to switch to it.
