Been playing a little more and realized that Uber added some small UI add-ons to the game (awesome). However they could use some warnings or a tiny Description so they are not accidentally turned on. (cinematic mode especially)

This is roughly what I think each UI option changes to the game, if you think its mis-identified feel free to post and mention the change.

    Cinematic mode:
Disables wire frames, Health bars, selection squares and strategic icons for cleaner presentation

    Show Unit Icons:
Always-Strategic icons on at all times.
Range dependent-Strategic icons shown when in strategic zoom
Never - Strategic Icons disabled (haven't confirmed this)

    Show Metal Spots:
On- Metal spots have permanent green dot
(Recommendation) Pre-build only- Metal spots shown until extractor has been built on top of it. [Noticed that they stay for underwater mass spots]
Off-Metal spots are unmarked on map.

    Show Stats Bar:
Always- Unit Health and energy constantly displayed
Value Dependent- When unit or structure is damaged, Health status is displayed
Never- Unit Health and Energy never displayed

    Show Focus:
Always-Shows the directional arrows of a unit's orders to the next objective (green for move, blue for assist, red for attack, etc.)
Selected- Shows the directional Arrows only when the units are selected.
Never-Never shows the directional arrows of the next task for a unit.

    Focus Behavior:
All-Shows the Focus of every unit's orders at all times
Selected-Only shows selected unit order's focus

    Show Build Preview:
Always: Wire Frame modals always present in qued build orders
Modal: Wire Frames displayed only when shift is held down
Never: Wire Frames are never displayed

    Selection Squares:
On-Selection squares are visible for units selected
Off- Selection squares are turned off and are not visible

    Selection Icons:
On-Icons turn a Teal color when selected.*Caution when playing against a teal opponent
Off-Icons remain the same color regardless of selection.

    Orbital Shell:
Range dependent:Shell shows up when a certain range is achieved
Modal: Shell shows up when selected orbital units or at the right orbital layer camera level
    Never:Shell never shows up

    Show Terrestrials
Always:Shows units regardless of level of zoom of planet up to orbital max layer
Range Dependent: Only shows ground units at a certain height range below orbital.

Updated orbital shell and Show Terrestrials

I think "Focus" should be called "Unit Objective arrow" .

I never really understood it in the options menu since focus could mean anything(to me at least)

Objective arrows help me understand at least a little better what it could be referring to, maybe even "Unit Objective Arrow"

The Blue Arrow ( assist) is also a very dark blue color that can get hard to see when up close, I think that should be changed to a different color.

    Focus Behavior: (Fixed)
All-Shows the Focus of every unit at all times
    Selected-Only shows selected unit focus

What does this do different from Show Focus?

All gives all the directions at all times.. say an engineer is qued up to 5 mass extractors, it will show the focus to all of those. If it was in selected mode. It would only show the current focus and probably the next mass extractor.

Don't quote me on this.. its still a little unclear what it all entirely means haha.

Yeah man have at it, Its not the best wording, so if you can adjust it to make it clear for most that would be great.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, i'll do a final mock up and update the thread.

    Couple of niggles:

Shift has to be held not hit (which I read as pressed)

Selection icon doesn't turn the icon a brighter colour, it turns it teal. Would be worth noting the potential issue when playing someone who is teal.

what if YOU are teal? anybody know?
    nice writeup, btw, thanks!

i'm still confused about "Show Focus" vs. "Focus Behavior" though. Does one show only the next destination, and the other arrow through all queued assignments?

It makes your units slightly brighter. From experience when teal.

    Does this help?

i saw that before - so that applies to the "all" setting, as in "Focus Behavior" all? Cause the description reads
which is not what that means. I read that definition as all units, not all orders.

soooo.... no. doesn't help! (unless you're not updating the op anymore? sorry, thought you were... if not, my bad - i was going there for the agreed-upon and verified definitions).

I feel like "cinematic mode" is fairly useless as a permanent option in the menu. Needs a hotkey. For example ctrl+u. Icons are still a part of the GUI.

i thought it was for when you were going to capture a "movie" or clip of gameplay... so you could have all artificial selections off, and still monkey around with scenes, zooms and shots of unadulterated carnage.

It's still tedious to go into the menu to enable it, then go back to disable it. When really it should just be considered the same as the rest of the GUI when you turn that off using the already convenient hotkey.

no, like placing the mouse over attack for instance should display "a" to help new players remember such hot keys and those of us that forget a nice pop up menu ala TA would be nice to though.

Okay, gotcha, I changed the wording. I thought I understood what you meant I just wasn't sure if you read my response later in the thread.

    I added order's as clarification.

... I think that would be better for this thread. What you're saying is a UI improvement that uber should add to the Graphics user interface and not the options menu under UI.

They should just show the hotkeys always ala starcraft 2.
