http://www.twitch.tv/uberentertainment/b/531476416 Livestream starts! They jump right in and don’t beat around the bush. Straight into gameplay! AI personalities are in the game! Now difficulty is determined by AI personalities rather than just economy modifiers. Adam starts playing Galactic War. He moves around grabbing tech, and then jumps into combat against the AI. And right at the start, a bug. The Commander stops moving and loses connection to the server. They have various bug fixes to some of the Galactic War issues, so we’ll get fixes next week. Apparently having the advanced orbital tech causes problems and crashes. So don’t use that until they get out a new build. Dancing fabricators bug… extreme frustration of mine… Dinosaur backdrop! They recorded four hours of audio. So there’s a ton, of voice notifications. With the new purchasable Commanders, a cut of those purchases go to the backers. The next build is going to have a bunch of fixes and improvements to the AI. This is a first pass of the Galactic War. Many improvements are coming. Significant Neural Net improvements are coming real soon. Gonna make the AI an even worthier foe. More performance optimizations are yet to come. Not new news, but it’s coming. Both client side and server side. “Will there be new orbital units?” “Yes. Probably. Someday. If we need more.” Multiplanet AI improvements are high on the AI improvements priorities. It currently struggles with multi-planet gameplay. It’ll use teleporters, orbital units, and the like. Astroid belts are still planned. The new enemy detected notification is amazing. If you click on the Commander icon in the upper left, it’ll show you where that Commander was last seen. More than one PiP windows will be possible eventually. Textures and biomes are not finished. The style is locked in, but not final. Biomes are being constantly improved. Bacon background! Brad’s muscles! They’re not ready to talk much about Gas Giants. It’ll be mostly orbital, with resources. The live AI is pretty broken. Turns out the engine hasn’t been named, so people made suggestions for engine names. Server modding capability is coming “soon” to the PTE! Crawling bombs are fixed and working!
Cool stuff, although asteroid belts being "planned" is disconcerting... A fish stage was also "planned" for Spore. I have faith in Uber, but the word planned worries me slightly.
I have used orbital myself. I have had crashes, but never any crashing within first hour of a match. It took me 4 hours in 2 different matches against a faction leader which is where I experienced crashes with my orbital. So, take it with a grain of salt. as in 5/23? That's silly, Uber is not EA, they would make something happened if something was functional. They don't like definitive for sure answers, because sometimes things literally don't function. Like when it was hard to use or find or pick out orbital from ground or their location dependent of the ground. Things like that made "December Release" not functional. So best not to say "yes", but that work is being done and if nothing stands in it's way then it's coming.
Oh god, I was telling one of my friends about this, and our conversation kinda went like this: "Hey, apparently bomb bots work now" "They didn't work before?" "No. They were bugged"
