I noticed that there were alot of questions regarding the game spread around the forums and didn't see a Q&A Thread anywhere yet. Figured it would be nice to have a set place to come to get some answers from the devs and people who got to play the game without having to dance all over the place (I hope this is ok with you guys at Uber).

My first question...is there anything thing that was revealed at PAX that the devs want to keep on the down low? Like specific mechanics, abilities and such...I have been bursting at the seems wanting to talk about this stuff!

Post away! We didn't mention anything or show anything that shouldn't be public. For example we are still working out how many maps there will be so we didn't give a specific number.

Are you guys going to have a beta?

How many balance changes have been made since the PAX East version?

What features are you still working on?

There isn't really any way to do a beta on XBLA.

None, Scathis was at Pax instead of balancing the game ;)

A lot of UI feedback stuff, nailing down all of the correct xbox functionality for matchmaking, lots of little polish items, tuning the look of and testing the maps etc.

Not entirely true... I made a few changes this morning. I reduced the amount of prizes the Mascot throws off but made player kills throw of 1-3 prizes.

What are the different kinds of prizes, and what do they do?

Prizes are buffs that only last until you die.

Q: Do you have a few map archetypes that you're gonna go for, as far as aesthetics? I know this is a different setting, but in a lot of shooters there's an arctic map, a desert map, a jungle, urban map, etc. I know there's only so much you can do with the 'future battle arena' concept, so what if anything are some non-gameplay-related differences you're trying to include in the different maps?

The reason I ask this is because there were some people at PAX who didn't realize there were two different maps until they were told. I don't think the reason is because they're too similar in layout, but that they both had that same bright light-blue arena aesthetic that made it hard to immediately differentiate between the two maps.

And it's an XBLA title, not a full top-price title, so the content amount is limited.

    ...

    for now.

OK, got it, there's only gonna be so many maps with the initial release.

The format of Crossfire relies upon the two-lane system for robots to make their way up to the Moneyball. So, all maps in that gametype have to frame themselves around two (or more?) lanes. Can you give some examples of ideas that are being tossed around to deviate from that format?

Maybe a map where there's a straight bridge from moneyball to moneyball with lots of cover, making it the easy path for players to get to the enemy base. The twist being that the robot's path to the enemy moneyball is a pain-in-the-*** for players to get to, requiring jump-pads and putting players in a terrible position since they're completely vulnerable to enemy fire from the bridge. But it's a trade-off; you have to get on the bridge with your robots if you want to push the lane and win the game.

I dunno, that's just one (seriously flawed) idea. What are some ideas the dev team has been kicking around?

We're pretty locked down on all our gametypes and gameplay. MNC has been in development for almost two years and implementing a new gametype is not a trivial thing. I think you should grab a copy of UDK for free and build it yourself. Have a good time :)

If you create it for PC you could have it run as a mod.

We already have a few ideas for the direction we want to go after release. Once the game is out there I'm sure we will be flooded with ideas from other people as well.
