I am trying to add a sim-speed statistic to PA Stats. I may or may not be ready at 16:00. Might be late 10-15 minutes

    EDIT:
This seems to work more or less. We'll see how accurate it is.

EDIT: More accurate measurement (yey the time value PA provides actually seems to be ms accurate:

Dunno why it goes to 110. Maybe it just actually really speeds up a little or my measurement is kinda jumpy. Dunno. But it did match pretty good overall with ctrl+p

I am setting up the aws server right now. The lobby will most likely be open within the next 10 minutes, hopefully less.

The test is not finished but this is the network load on the server right now:

30mbit/s seems to be enough for 30 players indeed.

If it's 20 MBit/s at 3 FPS, then it might easily get beyond 100 MBit/s if the sim gets faster, don't you think?

Indeed, but I doubt that any server at all can run this at 10 fps sim. Maybe 4-5 at max xD

At moment server capped at 4.5Mb/s per player.
So it's depend on number of units each player see on screen.

well this is not getting anywhere near 4.5 mb/s per player. But again wtf att that hard limit in the server

Uber has to pay for the bandwidth. Just imagine there was a server bug that caused the game to suck up all the available bandwidth...

Make 2500-3000 fireflies on assist patrolling unit and you'll see 4.5Mb/s. Obviously if game is on many small planets there likely never will so much bandwidth usage just because download rate for non active planet is extremely low. :)

There are less aggressive ways to limit it though, compared to a hard coded value in the executable. Like offer a parameter at startup.

Results from the still running game on a 16 core compute instance from amazon:

http://pastats.com/chart?gameId=230001 (notice the new simspeed tab, 0 sim speed happen when the game is paused)

the network load actually went up to 30-35 at some times. It really heavily depends on the simspeed. Right now the sim speed is only 20% and it is down to less than 5mbit/s

Interesting if you can improve performance a bit with nice/ionice. :)

So the server from softlayer won't be ready in time for me to do it today, but instead I made another game with the sim speed mod by trialQ. That means the game will run at nearly half the sim speed from the start, but all game stats will be changed so it should play normal.
Install PA Stats, make sure you have modded games listed and join now.

    EDIT:
hmm nobody around anymore. Guess hosting modded games isn't as easy. Will do another test in the next days. I'll again announce it maybe 2-3 days ahead of time.
The next test finally will be on the softlayer server :)

You need to launch an Evony style campaign. Play now, my Commander!

I now have access to the softlayer server. Since I have it anyway I'll go through the setup at least and host a game to test everything works as expected. If enough people show up we could also do another game. Though first I have to eat, so I expect the lobby will be up in 45 minutes.

The server is live, join via PA Stats. Max 32 players because it is using @burntcustard colors this time.

What possibility is there of modding out area commands and adding in a per player unit cap of say 1500-2500 units.
