Today's livestream was pretty cool. Lots of insight into the new things that are on their way.

    http://pamatches.com/news/livestream-showing-off-features-from-the-new-build/

    • Steambox Controller! Uber is gonna be adding support for Steam OS
      [IMG]
    • New Launcher Preview – smoother, better, and better in particular for Mac & Linux
      [IMG]
    • Lots of teleporter talk.
    • Bigger Interplanetary nukes will be coming. Likely so we can launch nukes at planets that don’t share orbits.
    • Uber is rebalancing the game to keeping the game unit focused – rather than superweapon focused like nukes, orbital lasers, and planet smashing.
    • Units feel too “popconry” for Uber. So they’ve reduced the rate of fire. Which reduces bandwidth requirements, allows for more units, and lets engagements last longer.
    • They’re working so PA doesn’t have a “one unit solution.” Like the new heavily armored close range units.
    • They’re working hard on unit role diversity – particularly with vehicles vs bots. So they’re working on making different types of units to have different roles.
    • The Advanced Combat Fabricator can build teleporters!
    • Walls are going to be much more prevalent.
    • They’re working hard on terrain diversity – particularly with height differentiation.
    • Uber is working hard to reduce micromanagement in PA so players can focus on the grand scheme of the game.
    • In the “not too distant future” will have lots of new cool lighting features. They plan on having lighting be an important component of gameplay.
    • The Astraeus has a lot less health now. So be careful. It’s easy to shoot down.
    • Uber is working on making Orbital be an important part of gameplay.
    • “The biggest changes are still in the future.”
    • Crawling bomb bot will be integrated.
    • Anti air towers may or may not be changed to fire at air only. We’ll see.
    • Uber agrees that Advanced vehicles feel weak.
    • There will be multiple types of explosions added, which will be beautiful. And lots of new effects on top of that.
    • Partical effects will have lots of performance updates soon.
    • Galactic War is well on its way. They have a playable test version of it.
    • Uber is still working on the Unit Cannon.
    • Uber is “redesigning the entire UI right now.
    • Uber expects us to “build the coolest stuff.” Uber really really wants us to make lots of really cool mods. Uber believes mods to be very important to the long term health and growth of PA.
    • We’ll be able to completely destroy planets in the future.
    • The speed that units fly inbetween planets will be variable in the future.
    • PA has “video game physics.” If you want realistic space physics, go play Kerbal Space Program.
    • New special Interplanetary Nukes will be able to intercept things in space.
    • We will have multiple nuclear missiles
    • The Uber cannon cannot be properly be triggered and it is being actively worked on.

Watched the livestream, wrote down what happened, hit post, then copy paste. :)

Edit: That is NOT what she said by the way.

Playable test version of galactic war.
    IT'S HAPPENING GUYS, IT'S HAPPENING!
Everything else sounds awesome too, every live stream increases my hype, I hope it doesn't prove misplaced like with other games I was hyped for...

    WOW

The wall now has 6000HP, instead of 3000. Metal cost has been reduced from 300 to 25.

My question is much more prevalent as a shield?

Or much more prevalent as a barrier to movement?

Because I still don't see a reason why you would build either of these formations 2014-01-18_00001.jpg 2014-01-18_00002.jpg

When you could instead build this:

I think the wall changes are nice. Makes defensive formations a viable playstyle again. It just feels good to crack up enemy defenses with a pelter. Now it's much more viable with walls as they have become.

Notice: Defensive formations doesn't equal turtling.

With the stupidly (in the good way)low cost of walls, I'm sure more people will find the former a little better than the latter now, I know I'll be trying it more often.

Defensive formations have always been a viable playstyle.
The point of a wall is to prevent unit movement

But well, my fear is that walls are too much of a ridiculous shield.

e.g. that turret has what, 36000 hp on most angles incoming fire can come from.

    2014-01-18_00011.jpg

And 24000 HP in a particular direction only costs 100 metal.

Yeah, but there are units that can shoot over walls.

Alot of people will try to get past the walls and rush to the core of the base. Making them perceive they are allowed to do so only to be funneling them through a kill zone is becoming easier to do. Little rat mazes of doom.

    Like what?

Bomber - eaten by t2 flak.

Little bit of pelter/catapult/holkins spam pretty much covers you against everything.

You know that in FFA's, turtles don't move huh? Best option is to out-antinuke them.
