With uber making HR, assuming it gets funded, we'll be getting flat maps, and lots of other capabilities.

Since they're gonna share the same engine, when the HR team adds some capabilities, those capabilities (like flat maps) will be useable in PA. Even if it isn't in vanilla, like say... Digging units, molders *should* be able to add that.

Who knows what all we'll get - but we will at least get flat maps. Probably through mods, but we'll get flat maps nonetheless.

    So that's cool.

I know a lot of people want flat maps.

    --

Edit: Yes. This is speculation. I figured that was obvious. But Uber has stated that the two games will share an engine, and has stated when improvements are made to one, they'll be transferable into the other.

    Another edit.

I don't think that's a reasonable assumption at this time.

Backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. Just look at the Wargame series. Also they are not promising offline server with this game, so you have to question that. If PA is going to have offline (one day), then you would assume HR would have it too, but apparently not.

Maybe they have learned not to shoot themselves in their own foot, promising features and schedules they couldn't meet.

Yes I understand that. But not promising a feature that is supposed to be available for their previous kickstarter project which is using the same engine. Kind of strange don't you think?

With the risk of sounding repetitive, maybe they have learned not to shoot them....

I doubt that the flat map in HR would be shared with PA

Just to clarify, the title of this thread and the content of the first post is pure speculation, to my knowledge, unless Uber have privately confirmed this to Brian.

I doubt it, stuff like pathfinding and physics should be pretty hard to convert to flat, shouldn't they?

Also, i don't think we need them. Planet editors would be more important.

Someone bookmark this thread. A couple of years from now someone is going to refer to Uber's "promise" to bring flat maps to PA :D

Yeah, just like the "promise" to bring shields into the game (which in actuality, was the exact opposite of the case)

They are pushing HR by talking about how they delivered on PA. Putting in an word about DRM-free into the HR KS at this time would be pretty bad looking as that wasn't delivered for PA yet. Sure, that means so far HR might be a complete online only **** that has pointless DRM just written to make customers hate the game. But I don't think anyone at Uber would consider developing real DRM technology.

PA engine architecture is DRM technology. :p

Well.... I'd argue a client-server architecture by itself is no DRM technology. It can be abused as that, yes. But splitting the server and the client like this makes sense for many reasons besides DRM.

How about we stop making wild assumptions and stating them as fact.

    enough false hopes already.
thanks I think it deserves being cleared up.

    Hi Brian,

there is a possibility that PA will get flat maps. The rest is pure speculation. Sorry.
