As we have seen various stages of the planet generator often we see Oceans that are disconnected and decentralized. This is an issue as it highly limits the mobility and in turn usefulness for Naval Units.

I was just wondering if Uber is planning any edits to the procedural generation that can centralize oceans better and solve this issue, remember a ship should be able to circumnavigate most Earth Like planets, but i understand the decentralized nature of the oceans on hotter worlds.

Non issue. Making a planet with more connected oceans and water is as trivial as moving the slider.

And yes there will continue to be plenty of tweaks to the planetary generation code.

Ah sweet!, thanks for the reply.

I'm just obsessed with Naval units so i felt it would be good to clarify. Also props this Planet generator is really cool how its so flexible.

If you are obsessed with naval units make watery planets.

We haven't showed off too much water yet because graphically it hasn't had anything done to it yet.

looks sexy even with the water not being done yet i will point out though you seem to have a mountain that is higher than the atmosphere of the planet :p

This can potentially occur on other planets. Some known mountains, like Olympus Mons on Mars, come close.

That would cause some pretty godlike wind patterns around the bit where it pierces through into vacuum, I'd imagine. At least, if it was a dramatic spike and not a slow rise like Olympus Mons.

Uh, what? Dude. The fault is with navy for being unable to cope. Just as land units have their array of tools to move across arbitrary space, naval too needs options to keep mobile in the face of adversity.

    For example:
    - Battleships with unit/boat cannons
    - Dropping boats from orbit
    - Hooking boats to air transports
    - Walking boats
    - Generic hover units

See? Now the Commander gives zero passionate embraces, because he has an answer to every map.

I expect no less than ONE HUNDRED sliders!

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a over 9000 slider just for the lolz. I really do expect so many sliders.

Allow terraform to dig a canal for ships to connect water bodies together.

Win control of an ocean? No problem, park your bombardment ships to cover the project and just dig your way to the next ocean.

Need to go to high ground? No problem, let's build locks. (or have super-heavy air transports able to carry big ships and bots)

So I guess you're also against Floating Tanks or Rolling Bots?

    There are also more practical ways to deal with a series of smaller bodies of water;

1] Don't overbuild(if you feel you need them at all) on boats when you have a small lake.

    2] Reclaim and Rebuild Elsewhere.
